A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced Sous Chef to join Executive Chef Jay Olsen leading the award-winning Monaco Kitchen restaurant at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco; always a popular favourite with Nelson locals, hotel and conference guests alike.

An exciting opportunity has been created for a highly professional and passionate Senior Chef to join our kitchen team.
Reporting to the Executive Chef, this role offers a diverse range of responsibilities and an exciting challenge.
 
Key Tasks/Duties:
  • This role is for an experienced chef, with proven ability to run, manage and lead the kitchen in conjunction with, and in the absence of, the Executive Chef
  • Delivering high quality cuisine in our restaurant and conferencing venues quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to produce high quality cuisine in a prompt and efficient manner for conferences and events
  • Ability to assist with ordering, stock rotation, rostering and maintaining high standards of hygiene in the workplace
  • Ability to work in a team environment, but also to take charge when necessary to ensure smooth operation of the kitchen
  • Be actively involved in financial side of the business
  • Be available to work on a rostered basis including weekends and public holidays, am and pm shifts.
 Requirements:
  • An innovative approach and knowledge of a variety of cooking styles & cuisine
  • A strong knowledge of food safety and health and safety practices
  • Strong Interpersonal and people management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Well-developed organisational skills
  • A good understanding of the financial aspects of running a kitchen
  • Proven experience in a similar role is required and strong references will be needed
  • The legal right to work in New Zealand
